| Community. A sense of belonging. It’s a basic
human need - a need to be connected with others in a meaningful
way. A need to share our hopes, our dreams-our lives. Larry and
Carol Reitz understand that need. Larry, a practicing physician,
grew up in Evansville, Indiana, where his dad was a pharmacist.
His family lived above the local drug store, where he and his brother
worked. Barrels full of nuts and candies made the store a favorite
meeting
place. People lived close to school, church, work and the general
store. Children rode their bikes everywhere and everyone knew everyone
else. At night, neighbors gathered to talk about the day’s
events; children played together as their parents talked. The first
child to see a lighted streetlight cried out “First Light
Street Light” and was able to choose the game for that evening.
That’s the type of close community Larry and Carol remember.
The Reitz family has a vested interest in Zionsville
and in Stonegate. Unlike most land developers, Larry and Carol intend
to remain on the land that has been their home for nearly 30 years.
Their son and his wife, Larry, Jr. and Jasna Reitz, also live in
Stonegate and serve as the community’s project manager and
advertising consultant, respectively. Other members of the family,
Jon and Lauri Reitz, are also involved in establishing Stonegate.
That sense of family carries over into Stonegate. It’s a wonderful
atmosphere of belonging. It’s community at its best.
